To carry out a wide range of services for local communities, JMA operates a number of observatories and weather stations across the country. Sapporo, Sendai, Tokyo, Osaka, and Fukuoka District Meteorological Observatories (DMOs) and the Okinawa Meteorological Observatory serves as regional central offices to direct 47 Local Meteorological Observatories (LMOs) which provide information services in prefectures and sub-prefectures, as well as 56 weather stations which are dedicated to observations.
JMA also provides services for various sectors of the economy. Four Aviation Weather Service Centers (AWSCs), 9 aviation weather stations, and 49 airport branches have been established for aviation meteorological services. Four Marine Observations in Hakodate, Kobe, Nagasaki, and Maizuru offer marine meteorological and oceanographic services.
Data of Climate and Ocean on the Website:
MIRC was established in the Japan Hydrographic Association. MIRC conducts high grade quality control to the oceanic data compiled by JODC, and produces useful data products for users of various fields. Speedy distribution of necessary data set and of data products is also the task of MIRC. Besides, MIRC also works for enlightening and popularization of the ocean knowledge for general publics using its data products. The staffs of MIRC and JODC conduct various joint-studies on data management problems.
MIRC conducts basic investigations on data management problems and produces desirable data products. MIRC also joins actively to cooperative projects with domestic and overseas investigators. MIRC publishes books to enlighten the role of the oceans for human being, and designs educational materials relating to oceans. MIRC also works internationally on data collection, quality control and other data management issues. MIRC positively joins international projects relating oceanographic data management.

Since 2001, the Environment Ministry and the Northwest Pacific Region Environmental Cooperation Center (NPEC) have been promoting the Marine Environmental Watch Project as a means of establishing a system to distribute marine environment data, gathered by satellites and analyzed, to NOWPAP affiliated countries and other nations.
NPEC began operation of its receiving ground station in March of 2002. The data received are from NOAA AVHRR, Feng Yun-1 (FY-1) Multi-channel Visible and Infrared Scan Radiometer (MVISR) and TERRA/Aqua MODIS satellite instruments, which are used for marine environment monitoring.Measured data obtained by the receiving ground station are automatically processed for the NOWPAP region and saved in a database that may eventually be utilized in the future for baseline information. The data are accessible via the Internet and provides images of clouds, SST, Chlorophyll a concentration and Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI). The data are accessible by searches by measurement date, cloud cover and region. Ten-day composite images of the SST, day and night, are also available.

http://www.argo.org.cn/english/index.html The China Argo Data Center (CADC) is hosted and operated by the NMDIS (National Marine Data & Information Service).
China took part in global Argo program in October 2001 and planed to deploy 100-150 floats in Western Pacific and Eastern Indian Oceans during 2002-2005 to set up a local oceanic observing network. Then in each year later, 20-30 floats are to be deployed for the network's operation in normal conditions.
China Argo is implemented through the cooperation of the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Land, the China State Ocean Administration, China Navy, China Academic of Sciences and China Meteorological Administration.
Until now 29 Argo floats have been deployed by China in Pacific and East Indian. 8 floats are active. 949 profiles from 27 floats (two floats have no measurements) have been processed by the end of October 2005.

KHOA under the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries has carried out hydrographic survey and ocean-graphic observation covering its national jurisdiction, and has established a database for the production of nautical charts, publications, and other oceanographic data.
KHOA is building up a tool for obtaining information from the oceans and fisheries by constructing GIS for the oceans and fisheries through a MIS (Marine Information System) project.NORI developed databases for the navigation charts, basic data and for the paper navigation charts. It also developed electronic charts from the coastal navigation charts by conforming to the IHO S-57 standard for the purpose of safe navigation via ECDIS. NORI receives sea surface image data from an artificial satellite and processes them for the purpose of simultaneous oceanographic observation in wider ocean areas.
KHOA data:
- Sea Exposure
- Real Time Coastal Data
- Real Time Ocean Current
- Tidal Forecast
China-Korea Joint Joint Research Center (CKJRC)
China and Republic of Korea (ROK) both are the important coastal countries. The seas and oceans play very important roles to these two country’s economy. In light of the joint statement of the Sino-Korean Summit held in 1994, China-Korea Joint Ocean Research Center (CKJORC) was set up in May, 1995 in Qingdao. The Center, a marine research institution supported by the governments of both the People’s Republic of China and the Republic of Korea (ROK), was established to enhance exchanges and cooperation between the two countries in marine-related fields in a bid to promote the regional development of marine science as well as to protect the marine environment and to boost the sustainable development and utilization of the marine resources in the world

The POI of Vladivostok was established in 1973. POI is a multipurpose scientific institution, in which modern research laboratories provide solving the most complicated problems of the ocean study and exploration. In the framework of the Institute there are two coastal experimental stations located in the eastern section of the NOWPAP area. The Institute has an opportunity to conduct studies in cruises on board, the research vessels of the FEB RAS. POI undertakes studies in the bounds of the Federal Program “The World Ocean”, and it has participated in the studies under the International Projects, among which are the World Ocean Circulation Experiment (WOCE), IOC Sub-commission for the Western Pacific (WESTPAC), JGOFS, JASC, NEAR-GOOS, NOWPAP, KOMEX, GODAR, Circulation Research of the East Asian Marginal Seas (CREAMS) and others. The Institute has stable scientific ties with many Institutes and Organizations all over the world.
